One problem many people find with camping is deciding what to do. If you are unfamiliar with what is out there, you may come up blank when it comes time for activities. Depending on what campsite you are visiting there are frequently many fun things you can add to your camping checklist. Also, ask your family to see what each person would think would be fun to do.
Looking up the amenities of the campgrounds is a good place to start. Almost all campgrounds will have hiking trails and most include a waterway and a park for the kids to play in. Other frequently seen amenities include canoes and fishing gear for rent, beach volleyball courts, and swimming pools. Some specialty parks may have waterfalls, a cave system, or a small wildlife park or museum for you to explore as well. You can have a fun family vacation with just a little planning.
Don’t forget to bring a long a few tools to make your own fun. A Frisbee or ball can be great for starting up games, both with your own family and with your fellow campers. A deck of cards or a good novel are also good tools for a relaxing good time. Just be sure to bring a lantern if you want to enjoy these activities at night.
For those who enjoy cooking, camping proposes a unique challenge. While making a decent meal with just an open fire and tin foil may seem daunting at first, many people have turned it into an art form, preparing gourmet quality meals over open coals. Bring some supplies and a cooler and play around with your options. Soon you too could become a master of cooking in the wild.
Camping is also a great time to get to know nature a little better. Guide books, such as those that show you how to identify bird species, animal tracks, or edible plants can turn your hike into a trip of deeper exploration and connection with nature.
A good camping trip provides plenty of opportunities. Having an idea of what you are looking for will help you get the most out of your travel experience.
