Preserving Nature While Camping

Camping is a fun way for a family to get away from busy city life, but it should never be taken for granted. With the world getting more crowded and polluted with each passing year, it’s absolutely essential to take care of our parks and campgrounds. For the most part, people seem to be genuinely caring in terms of how they treat their campsites. But sometimes mistakes are made, or small things are neglected that can lead to damage over time. It is important when taking a camping family vacation to teach our children how to preserve the natural landscape. In general you always want to leave the campsite as clean, or cleaner, than you found it. Encourage your kids to pick up trash that has been left behind saying that is so they can one day take their own kids there. Obeying simple rules like this will make sure you can enjoy the activity for years to come, and here are some more handy tips for preserving nature on your family camping vacation.

1. Always stick to trails. It might be tempting to stray off and do some exploring, but those trails are there for a reason. They are to keep you safe, and also to keep you away from protected vegetation and wildlife. So stay on course and make the best out designated paths and nature trails.

2. It might be tempting, but never chop down trees for firewood. The forest is not your personal fuel supply and you can really do some damage if you cut down the wrong trees. Bring your own cooking and heating equipment and make sure to only use outdoor camping supplies that won’t hurt the trees.

3. Take care to keep the water clean, whether you are near a lake, stream, or river. Don’t wash your clothes in water sources, and definitely don’t throw your garbage in them.

4. Make sure your camping tents are set up in designated areas. You might want some privacy. But setting up your tent away from everyone else sets up a chain reaction where everyone stops listening to the rules.

5. Keep track of your campfire. One of the best parts of camping is setting up a campfire and using it to cook while connecting with fellow campers. But make sure you know what you’re doing when it comes to fire. Each year horrible forest fires are started carelessly, which are made even more tragic by the fact they are entirely preventable.
