Every day some traveler at some airport is going to find their luggage missing. Imagine the amount of luggage that flows through some of the larger worldwide airports such as Chicago and Heathrow. It is not surprising that some pieces go astray. And besides having to deal with luggage lost by airlines or at airports, there is always the unpleasant possibility that someone will pick the suitcase off the luggage belt, innocently mistaking it for their own. When you are on a family vacation, this can be even more frustrating, because your plans will be altered while you figure out how to get your belongings.
There is one thing you can do to help make sure you are reunited with your luggage. And that same thing will help keep someone else from picking up the suitcase by mistake. And that is using custom luggage tags.
How can custom luggage tags help reunite you with your luggage? For one, your customized tag should be unique and easy to spot from a distance. Having one that really stands out can even help you spot your suitcase when it first hits the luggage conveyor belt and you can track the suitcase as it makes its way around to you. You might even spot one or two people first reaching for your suitcase and then backing off as they spot your custom tag and realize the case is not theirs.
Not only will custom luggage tags make your suitcase easier to spot, but it provides a psychological barrier to it being picked up by someone else. The tag makes it clear that the owner has taken steps to protect their suitcase, to make it obvious and easy to track. It is unlikely that someone will simply pick up your case and walk away with it with your custom tag acting like an alert flag.
Finally, be sure to put your identifying information inside the tag, not where it will be seen through the window. Even better, add your itinerary so that if your bag does get lost by the airline, they know where you will be and can get your lost luggage to you.
