Many Doolin hotels have had to raise their game in recent years to compete with the big hotel chains. The independent hotels selected here have traditional charm, great views and friendly service that have made them among the most popular in Doolin Ireland.

In the heart of Doolin town itself the 4-star Ballyvara guest house is ideally located within walking distance of the harbor. The hotel has the broadest range of modern rooms in the area all with en-suites and satellite TV.

The guest house has a broader appeal though due to the eclectic mix of rooms. Aside from regular twins and doubles there are luxury suites (with sleigh beds), spacious family rooms and even two open plan studio apartments with their own kitchen which are ideal for large groups or longer stays.

The more traditional Aran View House Hotel sits on the hillside overlooking Doolin town and the Aran Islands (from which it gets its name). Rooms are big with most having recently been modernized. West facing rooms get the sea-views while the east-facing rooms have pleasant countryside vistas.

In summer the hotel bar has traditional Irish music session and both the bar and adjoining restaurant serve a menu of Irish dishes, specializing in seafood caught by the local fishermen.

The 4-star Tir Gan Ean is a wonderful hotel for those seeking something a little quirky and modern. The hotels modern Celtic design continues inside with 12 modern guest rooms all fitted with plasmas, queen size beds, air conditioning and funky furniture.

The hotel has an almost boutique hotel to it, save for the fact that there is not a restaurant on site. They do however have one of the best breakfast menus in town with options including scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, scrumptious banana bread and the ubiquitous full Irish breakfast all available.
